On July 2 the Urbana City Council held the first reading of Ordinance 4609-24 to adopt the Urbana North Main Street Corridor Plan as an official planning guide.
Director of Administration Kerry Brugger described the plan as a 54-page summary intended to inform potential zoning and land-use changes along North Main Street. He emphasized the document is "more of a snapshot of what could be done as opposed to what you have today with the current mixed uses," framing it as a planning tool rather than an immediate change to regulations. Councilmembers voiced support: Ms. Truelove said she likes the plan and is "excited," and Mrs. Bean said it will be a "really good tool."
The ordinance was given its first reading; it requires two additional readings and a public hearing before adoption. If advanced, the plan would serve as an official guide for future zoning discussions along the North Main corridor but would not itself rezone property without subsequent formal actions.
