Superintendent of Public Works Chad Hall said the proposed structure would be a hoop-style barn similar to those in Piqua and London and would store approximately 1,400 to 1,600 tons of salt, roughly doubling the city’s current capacity. The request includes a 10% contingency and is charged to the Capital Improvement Fund - Street; the 2024 budget line for the project was listed at $225,000.
Council discussed practical details such as whether the vendor pricing reflected prevailing-wage/union work and whether the structure would have doors (Hall said the building would be open on the east end, away from prevailing winds). Mr. Thackery moved to put the request on the floor; Ms. Jumper seconded. Roll call vote was 7-0 in favor.
The purchase order authorizes staff to proceed with vendor contracts up to the approved amount; the administration will manage foundation and construction details and return to council if additional changes or funding are required.
