Urbana city officials opened a public hearing June 18 on the city’s proposed tax budget for the 2025 fiscal year. Director of Finance Chris Boettcher explained the purpose of the tax budget is to estimate resources available to the city for 2025 and said the estimated revenue for 2025 is slightly over $8.5 million.
The hearing produced no public comments and President Paul closed the public hearing at 6:05 p.m. During the regular session that followed, Council put Ordinance 4429-24, which adopts the tax budget and submits it to the county auditor, on the floor for discussion. Boettcher said nothing had changed since the earlier hearing; President Paul declared the ordinance to have had its first reading.
The tax budget sets revenue estimates and preliminary planning for 2025; the appropriation (expense) side will be addressed later in the year as departments and council finalize spending decisions. The ordinance will return for additional readings and formal adoption if council proceeds with the standard three-reading process.
No vote on final adoption took place at the meeting. The next regularly scheduled City Council meeting is July 2, 2024, where further budget or appropriation items could be considered.
