Thayne approves Bear Hollow meter and pump repairs, confirms it will not accept septage

The Thayne Town Council voted July 16 to proceed with a Bear Hollow master meter installation and to fund a repair to the Meadows booster pump station, while making clear the town will not accept septic or portable-toilet waste into its lagoons.

Cliff Eggleston presented vendor quotes for the Bear Hollow project: an Old Castle vault for $9,445.43, parts from Core and Main (meter, backflow prevention, valves) for $26,541.37 and installation from Vandenberg Excavation for $7,160, totaling $43,146.80. On motion by Councilwoman Nikole Passey, seconded by Councilmember Lenny Pelletier, the council approved proceeding with the installation for a project budget of $45,000 to be funded from the water capital outlay and water savings if needed.

Eggleston told the council the Meadows booster pump skid package lacked a master shutoff valve, making maintenance difficult; he estimated proper repair at $11,477.98 and the council approved a $12,000 allocation to install the shutoff valve.

On regional septic handling, Eggleston summarized a countywide meeting: haulers currently take about 10,000 gallons per day to Marbleton, Afton has a cease-and-desist regarding dumping, and Cokeville is only able to accept some volume subject to modifications. Eggleston said towns had questioned county responsibility; he cautioned that accepting septage into Thayne's lagoons would risk discharge-permit compliance and accelerate dredging needs. The council confirmed Thayne will not accept septic or portable-toilet waste.

The council recorded all motions as carried unanimously. Public Works staff were directed to order parts and schedule the Bear Hollow installation and Meadows valve work.
