Advisory board backs letter to support Daytona Beach bid for National Folk Festival; CVB reports $100,000 seed commitment

Daytona Beach advisory board members voted unanimously to send a letter of recommendation supporting the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau’s bid to host the National Folk Festival, a three-year, multi-day cultural event that typically draws large crowds and is framed by organizers as a legacy-building community development project.

CVB representatives told the board the CVB and partners are preparing a letter of intent due July 1 and a full proposal due August 3. The CVB said the Halifax Area HOTboard has committed $100,000 toward the estimated $500,000 needed to assemble a competitive bid and that the CVB was working to secure the balance from sponsors and local partners. CVB staff emphasized they were not seeking financial commitments from the board at the meeting, but asked for public and civic support to demonstrate community backing.

After the presentation, a board member moved that the advisory board write a letter of recommendation to the city commission supporting the bid. The motion was seconded; the board voted unanimously in favor.

Public commenters generally supported the idea, with one speaker urging the board to also consider financial contributions later in the process. CVB staff described the festival as a three-year host commitment during which the national association would help the host city program the festival; after three years, the community retains the event as a locally run legacy festival.

The board’s letter will be forwarded as part of the CVB’s broader outreach to show municipal and community support for the bid. There was no City Commission vote recorded at this meeting; the advisory board’s action was a recommendation.
