Yarmouth committee moves to research replacement of broken community digital board

A committee member moved and members approved a directive for staff to research replacement and cost options for the community digital information board at the Chamber visitor center, which members said has been out of service for roughly a year.
Megan Eldridge said the town has tried repairs under an existing purchase order of about $4,000 but the vendor has not yet resolved the problem. Meeting participants estimated the original purchase was about $25,000 five years ago and cautioned costs to replace the unit could be substantially higher today.
Without endorsing a particular vendor, members approved a staff action to obtain quotes for repair versus replacement, coordinate estimates with the Chamber and the town’s IT staff, and return to the committee with recommended procurement steps prior to the summer season. The motion was seconded and approved by members present.
Eldridge said the work will be coordinated through the Department of Community Development with IT involvement and would include cost and timeline options so the committee can determine the procurement path and whether the project requires a full replacement or an in-kind repair.
