The Blanchester Board of Education on June 26 approved a broad consent package that included contracts, donations, personnel actions and facility repairs.
The board approved the Southwestern Ohio EPC 2025 insurance rates (medical +6.5%) and an EPC liability, fleet and property renewal proposal for $107,587; the record notes property coverage rose from $70,727,832 to $100,023,800 after a recent appraisal. The board also approved 'Then and Now' payments including $4,965 to C2 OH Otsego II, LLC (over by $517) and $4,151.23 to Comm‑Core, LLC (over by $690.88), and the treasurer's packet included transfers from Title II‑A to Title I Schoolwide Transferability totaling $6,527.27.
Contracts and service approvals included a 2024‑25 service provider agreement with MVECA for FinalForms support, a WCESC FY25 contract for a paraprofessional aide in the amount of $56,160, a 2024‑25 contract with Ohio Valley Voices, and MOUs with SOESC for Math Trek and Math Mastery professional learning for 2024‑25. The board approved a contract with Schubert Tennis for high school tennis court repairs and resurfacing for $49,687; $25,000 of that cost will be paid with grant funds and the remainder with budgeted PI money, and the Blanchester Schools Foundation will contribute funds for pickleball nets and courts.
The board accepted multiple donations to athletics and activity funds, including $11,100 from Eagles for a new wrestling mat, $5,000 from Athletic Boosters for chairs, $3,618 from Blanchester Athletic Boosters to the Football Fund, and smaller donations to FFA and soccer funds, and Kroger rewards to the middle school.
Personnel actions approved included administrative contract renewals and appointments (Brad Ballinger, 2‑year athletic director; Ryan Briggs, 2‑year middle school principal; Jeri Earley, 2‑year Putman principal; Raechel Purdon, 3‑year assistant superintendent of instruction), certified hires (including Kiersten Kaplan, second grade teacher; Laura Yablonsky, sixth‑grade math), resignations (Cassidy Rose and Bella Woodyard) and numerous supplemental and summer program contracts funded in part by the Summer Create Grant.
The board also approved the enrollment of a foreign exchange student from the International Student Exchange (ISE) for the first semester of 2024‑25, approved the sale of old middle school playground equipment on GOVDeals.com, and approved job descriptions as presented. After regular business, the board entered executive session to discuss personnel and adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
