At its regular meeting the Lakeland School Corporation approved several operational items intended to keep the district compliant with state and federal expectations and to maintain continuity of services.
Transportation staff presented a school-bus emergency operations plan intended as a living document that incorporates state and federal guidance and driver input; staff recounted a recent incident in which drivers followed protocol and emergency services responded. The board approved the plan by voice vote.
The board also approved salary and employment contracts for administrators for the coming year, noting minimal changes and one pay adjustment for an administrator who earned a master’s degree. The superintendent's contract was presented and approved without change; the transcript records the superintendent contract as carrying unanimously.
On personnel systems, the board approved using Nimble for online applications and state job advertising. Administration said the Indiana Department of Education will cover the Nimble cost, so the district’s cost is $0 beginning in August. The board approved that agreement.
Other routine items approved included transfers, several hires, one retirement (Amy Thompson; service years reported as approximately 17), and multiple resignations; the board approved a consent agenda that also included a junior-senior high principal discretionary fund transfer to pay summer school staff from unused stipends.
Next steps: administration will proceed with implementation of the operations plan, finalize administrator contract paperwork and roll out Nimble in August; any staffing or payroll changes will be processed per district timelines.
