The Gulf Shores City Council approved two measures May 26 to facilitate the city's July 4 fireworks display. The council authorized a memorandum of understanding with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) to use the Gulf State Park Pier for staging pyrotechnics and related operations. Separately, the council authorized a contract with Pyro Shows, Inc. for the actual fireworks display in an amount not to exceed $48,000.
The MOU secures pier access and staging coordination with the state agency. The Pyro Shows contract covers show design and detonation services and is budgeted from the City's Programs & Events account. Both items were brought forward as resolutions and adopted unanimously.
Council members noted the need to coordinate staging and public safety with ADCNR and city staff. The contract amount and the MOU were included in the meeting packet and will be executed by the Mayor upon formal adoption.
Next steps: the Parks and Events team and Fire Rescue will finalize operational and safety plans with ADCNR and the vendor; payments will proceed following required invoicing and contract execution.
