Covington officials report High Street demolition progress, WWTP bore will close a street; Schoolhouse Park opening delayed

Village Administrator Tyler Rench reported several infrastructure and public-works updates at the June 17 Covington council meeting that will affect traffic and local facilities in the coming days.

On High Street, demolition is proceeding and the contractor plans to begin installing a metal roof beginning Tuesday; the project is expected to be completed by the end of June. Rench said the village's utility crews completed dura patching and that the village is coordinating WWTP work with Peterson Construction.

Work on the wastewater treatment plant includes a bore under the river that began last week. Rench said crews had to relocate the bore closer to the street, which requires a road closure beginning tomorrow. The length of the closure depends on subsurface conditions encountered during the bore; Rench said the village will post schedule updates on its Facebook page. Council Member Dawn Duff specifically asked about the closure timeline and was told the start date is tomorrow but the duration is uncertain.

Renovation of city hall is progressing, with contractors preparing to finish drywall. At Schoolhouse Park, final grading is underway; crews will seed grass and repair playground equipment this week but the park cannot open by July 4 because the electrical panel has not arrived and the final inspection cannot be completed. Rench said updates will appear on the village's Facebook page.

Rench also reported the Pearl Street fire hydrant is under review by the Ohio Department of Inspection (ODI); the village is awaiting the agency's findings.
