Village investigates major water leak traced to private property

Cridersville — Village officials briefed council on a persistent water leak that is costing the village substantial water and may originate on private property.
During the Utilities & Surface Water committee report, Council member Joe Bailey and Village Administrator Jarid Kohlrieser said Ohio Rural Water located the leak under a concrete patio between the trailer park and the Village Café and that water is coming up through patio cracks and saturating the ground.
"What was found was that the leak looks to be a private issue, and individuals have been notified of their options to try and resolve this issue," Bailey reported. Kohlrieser said the village is working with the solicitor to determine possible remedies because the village is losing substantial amounts of water.
Solicitor James F. Hearn Sr. told council he believes "under Title 61 the village does have authority to intervein in the situation and for the issue to be addressed," but he said he must review the precise statutory language before advising on legal steps.
No enforcement action or formal directive was recorded at the meeting; council directed the solicitor to review the legal language and report back. The matter remains under administrative follow-up.
