Cridersville council approves 2025 appointments, $44,000 fire contract and budget amendments

Cridersville — The Village of Cridersville Council approved a series of appointments, intergovernmental contracts and budget amendments at its Jan. 13 regular meeting.
Council President Eric West was re-elected to the 2025 council presidency after a nomination by Council member Dorance Thompson. Council confirmed James F. Hearn Sr. as the village solicitor for 2025 by approving Resolution No. 2504. Officials also approved the Rules of Council for 2025 and selected Choice One Engineering as the village engineer.
The council unanimously approved Resolution No. 2506, authorizing the mayor to enter a contract with the Cridersville Volunteer Fire Department to provide fire and rescue services to the village for 2025 for a fee of $44,000 to be paid in four equal quarterly installments. Council also approved Resolution No. 2507, allowing the Cridersville Volunteer Fire Department to provide EMS services to the village of Buckland for $1,200 for 2025; Chief Rick Miller said the department responded to 16 EMS calls in Buckland last year.
Fiscal Officer Taylor West read amendments to the 2025 appropriations under Resolution No. 2508. The council approved those amendments, which Fiscal Officer West said reflected additional available funds after paying off a cruiser early from ARPA dollars and incorporating a $2,000 donation from Otterbein.
Council also approved nondisciplinary administrative appointments: Choice One Engineering as village engineer, and Joe Bailey as Prevailing Wage Coordinator. Several representative appointments to regional bodies were confirmed, with appointees abstaining where noted.
"We appreciate the work of our volunteers and staff," Council President Eric West said while presenting several of the resolutions. "These motions keep the village operational into 2025."

The council frequently used emergency declarations to allow some measures to take effect immediately. Officials said emergency readings are used for time-sensitive appropriations and operational needs that would otherwise require multiple readings over months.
