Pennridge commission approves applications for camera and fleet grants, pledges 10% match

Chief Paul T. Dickinson Jr. told the Pennridge Regional Police Commission on Nov. 21 that he was presenting Resolutions 2024-03 and 2024-04 to authorize applications for DCED LSA grant funding to replace fleet equipment and to update the department's body-worn and in-car camera systems. He estimated each grant would most likely exceed $100,000 and suggested the commission could supply a 10% match.

Commissioner Jay Keyser asked how the commission would cover the required match if the grants were awarded, citing possibilities including splitting costs among the member townships, drawing from capital reserves or budgeting the expense. "I believe that the funding could be budgeted for in the 2026 budget," Chief Dickinson said, adding that the department would learn of awards in October of the following year and could plan accordingly.

Commissioner Gary Volovnik said including match funds demonstrates the department's commitment to the grant applications. Dave Nyman said East Rockhill Township would be able to provide funding if a grant were awarded. On a motion by Mr. Volovnik, seconded by Mr. Collingwood, the commission approved Resolutions 2024-03 and 2024-04 granting authority to apply for DCED LSA grant funding and committed to provide a 10% match for each application; the motion passed with all present voting in favor.

The consent agenda approved earlier in the meeting included payment of bills totaling $583,930.29 and other routine items. Chief Dickinson also noted the department's pension plan distress score from PMRS was 0, an indicator that the pension is funded at 90% or better.

The commission next meets Dec. 19, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
