The Norton City Schools Board of Education read and approved a resolution proclaiming March 17 as Music in Our Schools Month, then recognized multiple students of the month across district schools.
The resolution cites the National Association for Music Education and the Every Student Succeeds Act in urging communities to celebrate music education. A motion to approve the proclamation was moved, seconded and approved by roll call (motion carries 5–0).
After the vote the board recognized students from primary through high school. Teachers and staff introduced students and described their achievements: Sadie Roberts was praised for responsibility and leadership and for reading and writing above grade level; Amelia Wheelgert was cited for perseverance and participation; Rebecca Saunders was honored for creativity and strong writing; high‑school students Mason Pardee and Michael Blankenship were recognized for leadership in band and musical activities.
The board paused for photographs with the superintendent and invited families to take celebration signs to display in the community.
The meeting later resumed regular business; the student recognitions were ceremonial and did not require board action beyond the resolution vote.
