CHP, residents and MAC address speeding, illegal RV parking and park safety in Oak Park

Public safety and traffic concerns were a focus of the Oak Park MAC meeting on May 27.

CHP Community Liaison Officer Gregg Musgrove reported on discussions with the owner of an RV parked illegally on Maplegrove Street and responded to a member’s request for information about a recent accident on Kanan Road near Smoketree Avenue. Vice Chair Alon Glickstein read an email from VCSD Captain Cory Rubright stating he had “directed the beat cars to extra patrol in and around Mae Boyar Park due to reports of increased transient activity.”

During public comment, resident Shary Trux asked the MAC to help reduce speeding on and around Deerhill Road in the Regency and Chambord developments, requesting uphill speed signs and noting an intersection she described as especially dangerous; Officer Musgrove said CHP could consider placing a portable radar speed feedback trailer in the Deerhill area. County Transportation representative David Fleisch advised the MAC that installing delineators in the middle of Churchwood Drive was not workable, and the MAC asked staff to re-examine other safety options. Council members also noted a crossing guard fainted on duty at Conifer Street, and Vice Chair Glickstein said the Park District had twice trimmed oleanders at Mae Boyar Park while a committee studies further safety options.

What happens next: the MAC asked Transportation and CHP to re-check feasible safety measures for Deerhill Road and Churchwood Drive and to monitor park-area patrols; several items were continued for further review.
