Oak Park MAC reviews public-safety trends, traffic enforcement and election services; passes routine motions 4-0

At its June 24 meeting the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council heard reports of a slight uptick in vandalism and persistent thefts from unlocked vehicles, welcomed a new VCSD commander, discussed traffic enforcement and adopted routine motions including election services and meeting adjournment by 4-0 votes.
The Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council reviewed public-safety reports, traffic enforcement updates and approved routine procedural motions at its June 24 meeting.
VCSD Captain Cory Rubright reported a slight increase in misdemeanor vandalism incidents in the past month and said thefts from unlocked vehicles remain a persistent problem in Oak Park. Captain Rubright introduced Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Commander Bill Ayub as the new commander for east unincorporated areas, including Oak Park; members welcomed Ayub and wished him well in his new assignment. Rubright noted Ayub’s prior service as Assistant Police Chief for the City of Thousand Oaks and his most recent role leading the VCSD Aviation Unit.
California Highway Patrol Community Liaison Officer Gregg Musgrove told the MAC that officers conducted an unofficial sweep of streets to check for illegally parked vehicles, addressed a boat trailer parked too long on Deerhill Road and arranged to place the CHP speed feedback trailer on Deerhill Road in response to earlier requests. Alon Glickstein requested a report about a May 27 accident on Kanan Road near Smoketree Avenue and raised continuing concerns about bicycle-lane parking signage near the high school.
On procedural items, the MAC adopted the meeting agenda 4-0 (motion by Michael Paule, seconded by Alon Glickstein) and approved April minutes 4-0 (motion by Alon Glickstein, seconded by Michael Paule); the May minutes review was continued to the July meeting. The MAC also voted 4-0 to request election services for the Nov. 4, 2014 election consistent with prior years (motion by Mike Green, seconded by Robert von Schneidau). Chair Mike Green summarized written communications about a resident request for nearly 300 feet of red curb on Medea Creek Lane; members agreed to place that request on the July agenda.
The meeting adjourned at 9:35 PM after a 4-0 approval of a motion to adjourn (motion by Alon Glickstein, seconded by Michael Paule).
