Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council members told county planning staff on June 24 that a preliminary draft of the Ventura County wireless communication facilities ordinance needs clearer homeowner notification rules and stricter local height limits.
Members said they prefer a 50-foot height cap for wireless facilities in Oak Park and raised objections to a draft provision that would allow an automatic 10% increase in height at each permit renewal. They also asked planners to spell out standards for construction and maintenance impacts to local streets and for allowed work hours so residents and HOAs can assess likely disruptions.
County planning staff presented the proposed amendment to the Ventura County Non-Coastal Zoning Ordinance and answered questions from MAC members. Staff indicated the draft would not change the permitting process in a way that reduces opportunities for the Oak Park MAC to hear applications specific to the community.
MAC members emphasized timely notification of homeowners associations and nearby residents when applications are filed so community input can be meaningful. The council asked staff to consider tighter renewal limits and more explicit maintenance and work-hour restrictions before the draft moves forward.
The discussion took place during the MAC’s advisory matters agenda; no formal county action was taken by the MAC at the meeting.
