Board adopts McGraw Hill 'Wonders' reading series for K'5 to meet science-of-reading expectations

A district staff member explained that the elementary grades had not previously been on an approved series and that adopting Wonders would put both elementary buildings in compliance. "This is getting the elementary schools K-5 in compliance with the science of reading," the staff member said. The presenter added that budget constraints and the lack of consistent state funding have limited district-wide adoptions in recent years.
Board discussion did not produce objections; the motion to adopt the Wonders series passed 7-0. The presenter noted that the district's sixth-through-twelfth-grade materials were already compliant with the standard, and said there were no immediate plans for other subject-area adoptions unless funding became available.
