Branchburg board outlines projects for 'Referendum 2.0' including gym, HVAC and roof work

Interim Superintendent Dr. Burton said the district has submitted an application to the state for projects that could be included in a referendum: restroom upgrades, HVAC and roof replacements, renovations to the BCMS auxiliary gym, a Stony Brook multipurpose room renovation, a Stony Brook gym addition, and main office renovations. She said more information on costs and timelines will be shared in forthcoming communications.
The finance and facilities committee reported that it had reviewed a demographer report and housing turnover analysis to support the referendum and agreed to hire a consultant to help with marketing and outreach to ensure materials are ready before the vote. Committee members also noted a recent procurement outcome: removal of solar panels had a lower bid that saved roughly $13,000.
Dr. Burton framed the referendum and facilities work as part of a broader set of board and district goals related to safety, sustainability and learning environments. The board did not take a referendum-enabling vote on June 11; the presentation outlined planning and next steps.
Board members discussed next steps for marketing, bond-counsel coordination, and architect engagement; the administration said it will provide further details on project costs, timelines and outreach plans before any final referendum decision.
No public votes to place the referendum on the ballot were recorded on June 11.
