Board approves revised Groves house plan with exterior conditions

The Mount Kisco Architectural Review Board unanimously approved revised plans for a new single‑family house at 50 West Main Street on Sept. 18, after the applicant presented site-plan approval and agreed to several exterior refinements.

George Groves told the board the Building Inspector had approved earlier plans though the Village Engineer had not, and he brought the site approval to this meeting. He said the revised design adds windows and includes a brick chimney, wood-composition clapboard siding in 'Cape Cod Gray,' vinyl shutters with raised panels, and vinyl lattice clad in pine. Chairman Frank Tortorello suggested a more traditionally proportioned panel door with matching sidelights and recommended adding shutter dogs to make vinyl shutters read as wood. "I think the proposed door is not in character with the house," Tortorello said.

Board members also discussed preserving the existing streetwall and trees. Tortorello noted the applicant plans a four‑foot cut in the stone wall for a staircase while leaving the streetscape intact; Mrs. Chadwick reminded Mr. Groves of the town's tree-permit requirements and urged him to retain as many front trees as possible. The chair also reminded the applicant that silt fencing must be placed on his property during construction.

After the discussion, Mrs. Chadwick moved to accept the application as amended; Ms. Abramson seconded the motion and the board voted all ayes. The approval included the board's suggested changes to the front door and finishing details and a general expectation to preserve landscaping and follow local tree-permit rules. The applicant may return with final materials as needed for building permits.

The board's action completes its design review; any building permits or other administrative approvals remain subject to standard village inspections and permits.
