Board approves consent agenda with edits; defers one posting policy

The Lebanon Community School District board reviewed multiple policies during the consent‑agenda discussion and approved the consent agenda with one exception.

Board members discussed a number of policy edits included in the packet. Items noted during first and second readings included AC (delegation of communications‑role responsibilities to superintendent or a designate), clarification that the civil‑rights coordinator role has been carried out by past communications directors, and CEA language that prevents appointing a voting board member or the superintendent to the educational equity advisory committee. Facility policy edits that remove and re‑number several subpoints drew questions about how the reorganized policy would appear on the second reading.

Board members asked about the removal of the word "immediately" from sexual‑harassment reporting policies (JBA/GBN). Discussion focused on balancing a staff mandate to report when they become aware of misconduct with sensitivity to the fact that victims sometimes delay reporting; board members asked staff to consider alternative wording that preserves immediate reporting by staff while avoiding shaming a victim who delays disclosure.

Members also suggested adding social‑media posting of meeting links to BDDC to improve community engagement. The board moved to approve the consent agenda with BDDC removed for further edits; the motion was seconded and carried.

Next steps: staff will revise BDDC language and return it for consideration; other policy updates will proceed through the district’s adopted policy‑adoption schedule.
