Police Chief David Pernice told Union City Borough Council on June 25 that the department will have increased coverage for the French Creek Festival, with overtime funded by Erie County Detectives and two to three officers from the Erie County Courthouse.
Chief Pernice reviewed the May police report and said he has been updating department policies through Lexipol and is completing a Civil Service background check, which he expects to finish by July 5. He told council he has reached out to neighboring departments about recent golf-scramble fundraising totals—approximately $16,000 raised by Corry and $18,000–$20,000 by Warren—and said he would check with UC Country Club about its highest scramble proceeds.
During discussion of a proposed amendment to the parking ordinance affecting angled front-end parking in Municipal Lot #2, Chief Pernice noted that License Plate Readers capture video and allow plate searches that can assist investigations "anywhere in the country," and council asked Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips to review Lot #2 layout for angled parking. Council decided to postpone discussion of amendments to the zoning ordinance related to small games of chance and allowing pools in vacant adjoining lots until the Solicitor can attend a future meeting.
