Cicero board approves grants, infrastructure purchases and personnel hires

The Town of Cicero board on June 10 adopted a series of resolutions approving grants, public-works purchases and personnel actions that town officials described as routine steps to keep services running through the summer and into next year.
The board unanimously accepted a Dormitory Authority community-resiliency (Crest) grant for $120,000 (project ID 30146) to buy a mini bus for the Cicero Senior Center and authorized the supervisor and controller to execute grant documents and set budget accounts. The board discussed grant limitations and agreed that, while the grant application named the senior center as the project, future grants with flexible uses should be brought to the board for oversight.
The board also voted to approve several highway and public-works purchases: 15 smaller and five larger catch basins from Sunny Crest Incorporated for $9,800, $20,000 in assorted pipe under state contract PC70694, and a striping contract with Apex Striping for road marking work in multiple neighborhoods. Town staff clarified the county contract number for record-keeping.
On personnel, the board approved hiring Anthony Salvati as a part-time seasonal highway laborer at $16 per hour (start June 16, 2026) and amended pay for Parks & Recreation staff member Dominic Fudge to $17 per hour to reflect a new Nature Activity Leader role at the summer day camp.
Separately, the board authorized submission of a Consolidated Funding Application to seek up to $400,000 toward purchase of a new vacuum truck for catch-basin cleaning; if awarded, the town would provide roughly $110,000 as its share (board members noted that the local match would most likely be a 2027 budget item).
Board members framed the votes as part of routine town operations. One member urged a conservative budgeting approach, suggesting unbudgeted revenues be placed in fund balance until a demonstrated need arises; others said vehicle use related to local projects made immediate transfers to repair lines reasonable. The meeting closed with a reminder to residents about upcoming work on Lakeshore Road and the bridge closure schedule.
