The Dawn Theater Governance Board voted April 7 to authorize interim event management by Board Chair James M. Brandon and M. Wolfram, chair of the nonprofit Friends of the Dawn, after a recent resignation left the board short-staffed.
The action followed the board's discussion of the resignation of Felicia Ray-Finch, which the board said created a gap in interim planning for the theater. The board, which met at Hillsdale City Hall, approved a measure allowing Brandon and Wolfram or their designated representatives to schedule and arrange management for public events during the interim between managers. The transcript records that the board "voted to allow Brandon of the DTGB and Chair Wolfram from the Friends of the Dawn (or their designated representatives from said organizations) to schedule and arrange management for public events during the interim between managers." The meeting did not record a mover, seconder, or a roll-call vote tally for that motion.
Chair James M. Brandon said he would follow up with Olivia Smith, who normally records minutes, because minutes from the previous meeting were not available and were therefore not voted on. The board also noted that TIFA Chair Gelzer has indicated he will not fill the seats vacated by Ray-Finch and Scholl, leaving the DTGB with three members and a quorum threshold of two.
Board members said two entities are meeting with the City's Tax Increment Finance Authority Targeted Development staff in April about managing the Dawn, a step the board identified as part of finding a longer-term manager.
The board adjourned at 5:49 p.m. The authorization for interim event management is administrative in nature; the transcript does not record any additional formal restrictions, a precise duration for the authorization, or a vote tally.
