Lake County 911 Authority approves small 2026 budget amendment to reflect telecom tariff and search-charge adjustments

The Lake County 911 Authority voted Jan. 9 to amend its 2026 budget to reflect recent telecom tariffs and a corresponding change to the emergency telephone (search) charge. The amendment adds $5,489.64 in expenses and the same amount to telephone-charge revenue so the authority’s budget remains balanced down to the penny, board members said. Jackie reported a line-count reconciliation showing about 84,000 reportable lines and said provider-reported line counts indicate an estimated 2.4%–4% increase year over year, which staff expect will translate to roughly a 2% revenue change once cash receipts are tallied through March.
Board members emphasized that the change affects only internal accounting for 2026 and does not change the intergovernmental agreement amounts that member agencies are already expecting to pay into dispatch this year. Jeremiah confirmed that Lake County Finance has incorporated the revised figures for submission to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) on the authority’s behalf.
Jackie told the board she will prepare or help prepare letters of authority needed for line-count verification and for gathering wireless cell-site sector data; Sarah said Verizon has requested documentation showing the authority’s approval of any search-charge increase to match the state threshold and that she will forward Verizon’s request so Jackie can draft the appropriate board letter.
The board set no further budget actions at the meeting and confirmed the next regular meeting for Feb. 6, 2026.
