Adair County Board schedules road-vacation hearing, approves contracts, a sheriff’s hire and engineering actions

The Adair County Board of Supervisors met April 8, 2026, in Greenfield and approved a slate of routine claims and contracts, authorized a new sheriff’s office hire and set a public hearing to consider vacating a section of 115th Street.
The board — Supervisors Baier, Christoffersen, Hoadley, Walker and Wedemeyer — convened at 9:00 a.m. and approved the posted agenda and the April 1 minutes. The meeting record notes, “All motions were approved unanimously unless noted otherwise.”
In financial business the board approved payment of claims that included an Auxiant HRA INS TRUST entry and an Adair County Insurance Trust line totaling $7,154.57. County Treasurer Brenda Wallace presented and the board approved a Pitney Bowes postage meter lease for $188.37 per quarter and acknowledged receipt of a tax-suspension request.
County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater requested and the board approved hiring Stacy Briles-Mueller; Vandewater said he had coordinated with the county HR attorney on a modified pay and vacation schedule based on experience. The board also approved longevity raises of $0.25 per hour for county engineering employees Luke Meisenheimer and Bobby Jeanes upon completion of five years of service.
County Engineer Nick Kauffman reported several project updates and led discussion on engineering actions. The board approved the W26 Prussia LOST box culvert project for the FY26 letting, signed a final voucher for the N7 Eureka Bridge Replacement Project (L-LBRN7E—73-01), and approved and re-signed a right-of-way contract for the W26 Prussia RCB Culvert Project (LFM-LRCBW26P—7X01) with John Weinheimer acting as power of attorney. Kauffman said the county is managing structurally deficient bridges, that the Orient Energy Center paving may occur when surface conditions improve, and that Govig’s deck pour was occurring that morning.
On a formal motion (Resolution #2026-27) the board set a public hearing to consider vacating a portion of “115th Street” (established April 3, 1877) — the resolution describes the segment’s metes and bounds — and scheduled the hearing for 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Adair County Courthouse. The resolution was adopted by roll-call vote with Supervisors Christoffersen, Wedemeyer, Baier, Hoadley and Chair Jerry Walker all recorded as voting "aye." The resolution cites Iowa Code Chapter 306 for the county road vacation process.
