Adair County Board adopts FY2027 budget, approves elected officials’ salaries

Supervisor Paul Baier moved and Supervisor Hoadley seconded adoption of the compensation resolution (Resolution #2026-28). The board approved the following adopted salaries: Auditor $75,929.64 (2.8% increase); County Attorney $107,010.13 (2.8% plus a $2,500 adjustment); Recorder $75,929.64 (2.8%); Sheriff $109,385.81 (2.8%); Supervisors $33,051.34 (no increase); additional chair pay $1,200.00; Treasurer $75,929.64 (2.8%). The roll-call vote was Hoadley, Baier, Wedemeyer, Christoffersen and Walker — all aye.
Earlier in the meeting the board opened a public hearing on the proposed FY2027 budget at 9:15 a.m. and closed it at 9:18 a.m.; no public comments were received. The board then approved Resolution #2026-29 adopting the FY2027 budget as published and directed the county auditor to certify and file the budget with the Iowa Department of Management. The chair was authorized to sign the budget.
Why it matters: adoption of the budget sets the spending limits and tax certifications for the county for the coming fiscal year; the compensation resolution fixes pay for elected officers whose salaries are publicly funded.
Procedure and next steps: the auditor will file the certified budget and tax list with the state as required. No further action on these items was announced at the meeting.
