Bloomville council approves minutes and warrants, discusses vacancies and alley-survey costs

At the Jan. 7 Bloomville Village Council meeting Mayor Dave Auble and council members handled routine business and discussed appointments.
Carol Adams moved to approve and suspend the reading of the Dec. 17, 2025 minutes; Tabitha Sorg seconded. The motion carried with a recorded vote of 3-0 and Sonya Larson abstaining. Later in the meeting Tabitha Sorg moved to approve the warrants; Sonya Larson seconded and the motion carried 4-0.
Mayor Auble told the council there are open council seats (those previously held by Mr. Franklin and Mr. Vaughn) and the council has 30 days from the start of the year to fill vacancies. Special guest Sherri Bean expressed interest in serving on the council; Ms. Adams said she knew of another interested resident and would reach out. The mayor said Councilman Franklin has indicated interest in returning. The council discussed filling the seats promptly and set a goal to decide by the next meeting because of upcoming business and timelines.
On an alley vacating matter, the village solicitor reported the Auditor’s office requested additional information including alley description and measurements; the solicitor said a survey may be required which would involve additional cost. Council members agreed that the people gaining the property should be responsible for survey costs. Mayor Auble said he had contacted a neighboring property owner about the issue.
The fiscal officer asked whether approved raises for village employees should apply to a pay period that included two days in December but is paid in January. Council consensus was to apply the raises to the pay period paid in January for ease and consistency.
Mayor Auble reported Bloomville (and neighboring communities) had been selected for an RCAP pilot training on sustainability and collaboration; the request would include six participants from each community and council members asked for more details about scheduling before confirming participants. Council then voted to enter an executive session to discuss employee personnel. Tabitha Sorg moved and Carol Adams seconded; the motion carried 4-0. No public decisions after the executive session were recorded in the minutes.
The meeting adjourned; the next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2026 at 7 p.m.
