Bloomville plans water-tower repair, pool project review and prioritized tree removals

Mayor Dave Auble and the Bloomville Village Council were briefed on several public-works priorities at the Jan. 7 meeting.

Street Superintendent Rick Dentinger told the council Midwest Tanks submitted a quote to weld a leak in the village water tower for less than $7,000. Dentinger said the contractor expects to lower the tank level below the leak so welding can be completed while maintaining system pressure; the work is planned for a Tuesday morning when temperatures are expected to be about 40°F and residents may experience reduced water pressure during the repair. The superintendent said he and Levi will need to start very early the morning of the repair.

Dentinger also reported ongoing coordination with Hawk Tree Service and said a prior August quote for tree work is expected to remain valid. Council members discussed focusing on the most urgent sidewalk and tree needs first and raised concerns about cutting healthy trees near the memorial and at 62 S Marion St; the council agreed to prioritize urgent sidewalk/tree needs and proceed down a prioritized list.

On the pool project, Dentinger said he received a call from Dave Allen requesting an "apples-to-apples" comparison of project scope and pricing. He outlined outstanding questions about demolition approach, grading and fill depth, compaction and whether existing fencing could be reused; he said he would follow up with contractors to confirm scope and price comparisons.

The council also discussed smaller public-works items: repairing broken wiring near the park/basketball court and removing dead shrubs from the landscaping island near the village building. Council members agreed not to leave dead foliage that cannot be rejuvenated.

The council did not take a formal vote on any of these items during the public session; Dentinger said he would follow up with contractors and return more detailed cost and scope information at a later meeting.
