The Weston County School District #1 Board of Trustees on April 29 approved several certified resignations and transfers, accepted a classified termination, and approved the district's 2026–27 directors and classified staff list while the superintendent warned that federal and grant funding and Senate File 81 could affect staffing.
Superintendent LaCroix recommended the board accept the certified resignation of Bessie Colgrove as industrial arts (woodworking) teacher and the certified resignation of Clinton Colgrove as middle school science teacher and middle school assistant soccer coach, and the board moved to post those positions. Trustee Joe Prell moved to approve the resignations and Trustee Sean Crabtree seconded; the minutes record the motion as carried.
The board also approved certified transfers recommended by LaCroix: Louise Parsons from first grade to Title I, Jaimie Gray from second grade to fourth grade, and Cami Willyard from kindergarten to fourth grade. Trustee Joe Prell moved each transfer and motions were seconded as recorded; each was approved.
Superintendent LaCroix recommended and the board approved the termination of a classified employee; Trustee Joe Prell moved the motion and Trustee Sean Crabtree seconded. The minutes note the motion carried; no further personnel detail is included in the public minutes.
LaCroix presented the 2026–2027 directors/classified staff list for approval and cautioned trustees about continuing uncertainty in federal funding, grant availability and potential effects of Senate File 81 on district budgets and staffing. Trustee Tyler Mills moved to approve the 2026–27 roster, Trustee Sean Crabtree seconded, and the motion carried.
Board chair Billy Fitzwater also confirmed that the district will proceed with the reduction in force previously approved March 11, 2026, with one exception approved March 25 that restored the agriculture position to full time.
All personnel motions in the minutes are recorded as carried; the minutes do not include roll-call vote tallies or individual yes/no votes.
What happens next: the district will post the vacated certified positions and proceed with hiring and scheduling changes for 2026–27 while Business Manager Angie Holliday prepares the preliminary budget for presentation at the board's next meeting, now scheduled for May 12.
