Bloomville chooses Hoffbauer for refuse service; council approves police funding and equipment updates

Mayor David O. Auble Jr. told the council on Feb. 18 that Bloomville had chosen Hoffbauer as its new refuse-hauler when the current contract with Rumpke ends in March; Hoffbauer requested a letter so its attorney can prepare a contract and the mayor said Rumpke was notified.
The council also reviewed police items reported by Chief Dwight Dyer. Dyer said January activity was summarized in a report provided to council and that February complaints had reached 23 so far. He described a body-armor grant under consideration that would cover 75% of the cost, leaving the village responsible for 25%; he estimated the cost per vest at about $400. Dyer said a new cruiser is nearly complete and that a uniform and equipment sale is upcoming.
On municipal finance, Fiscal Officer Natasha Hatfield told the council that one certificate of deposit had been cashed in (incurring approximately a $60 penalty) and reinvested at about 3.75%; the police-cruiser CD was reinvested at approximately 4.25%. Council voted 6-0 to add an additional $5,000 to the police-cruiser CD fund (motion by Carol Adams, second by Rick Franklin).
The mayor also said the spring mailer had been updated. The council announced the next regular meeting for March 4, 2026, at 7 p.m.
