MPFR board reviews facilities, animal care systems and parade logistics ahead of fair

During the June 8 meeting Troy Simon provided a Fairgrounds Update, reporting cleaning, painting and maintenance work ahead of the superintendent walkthrough. Two swine barn misters have been installed, a third is expected soon, and the plan calls for three misters in the sheep and swine barns and two for poultry.
Simon said he is working to acquire an updated sound system for the barn areas and will implement cooling protocols for equipment in the crow’s nest to prevent overheating. He reported that the arena dust additive has not produced the desired effects in windy, hot conditions, so staff will continue watering and rely on natural rainfall where possible.
The Sale Committee, reported by David Buckley, plans to purchase shade tents for bleachers and outdoor spectator areas and will paint show panels in preparation for the fair. Buckley provided estimates for sale premiums by species (31 beef, 37 sheep, 63 swine, 22 goats) totaling about $1,683, and noted animal insurance for post‑sale drop‑off is estimated at about $11 per head.
The board discussed livestock movement and routing to reduce congestion, including a proposal to move steer entries in from the east and out through the west; the beef superintendent will review the proposal at the June 22 walkthrough. Parade logistics for the upcoming Tuesday event — which will include the Buffalo Soldiers, elected officials and a cattle drive element — were also coordinated.
