Bloomville approves pool removal contract; council orders filling of discovered cistern and schedules lead-line inspections

Bloomville Village Council on Feb. 18 voted 6-0 to approve a proposal from Dave Allen of Allen Excavating to remove the village swimming pool, with the contractor to crush and reuse existing material for the base.
The pool project was presented by Street Superintendent Rick Dentinger as a cost-saving approach using existing material for the base; Councilmember Carol Adams moved to approve the contractor and Rick Franklin seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Dentinger also reported that crews uncovered an old cistern, approximately 12–15 feet deep, while repairing a water line on High Street. He estimated roughly 40 tons of stone would be needed to fill the void and placed the material cost at about $600. Council members expressed safety concerns and raised no objections to proceeding with filling the cistern to prevent future hazards.
Council was also briefed on an EPA lead service-line inspection project: a contractor will hydro-excavate to inspect service lines at no cost to the village, with homeowners to be notified and work dependent on weather conditions.
An arborist (J. Frankart) was scheduled to inspect a separate tree concern on South Marion after March 1; the council said it would await the professional recommendation before taking action.
The pool contract approval and infrastructure items were recorded as part of the meeting’s regular business; implementation and scheduling details will be handled by the street superintendent and public works staff.
