The Dare County Board of Commissioners on June 15 approved a budget amendment to permit pre-audit and execution of a previously authorized multiyear Microsoft contract, a move staff said would save roughly $96,000.
Matt, a county staff member, told the board that if the county executes the Microsoft contract this week across the contract term it would save about $96,000. "If we execute that contract this week over the term of the contract, we'll save about $96,000," Matt said. He said the issue is not a lack of funds but that the money is in the wrong fiscal year and the amendment would move the appropriation into the proper year so staff can pre-audit and execute the contract.
The board approved the budget amendment by voice vote after a motion; commissioners recorded no roll-call tally in the transcript. County staff said the funds exist and this action merely reassigns the appropriation to the correct fiscal year to permit contract execution and realize the stated savings.
The board did not discuss further operational changes tied to the Microsoft contract during the special meeting.
