Bolivar council discusses added patrol hours and officer transfer; new cruiser arrival delayed until November

The Village of Bolivar council at its Aug. 1 meeting conducted a first reading on changes to local police staffing and heard an equipment update from the police chief.
Council discussed transferring Michael Frame from auxiliary status to a part-time patrol position and authorizing up to 60 additional part-time patrol hours per month starting in September at a rate of $16.50 per hour. Diveley introduced the staffing proposal during the Safety report; President Will Bellinger said the matter was presented as a first reading and would be brought back as an emergency after the fiscal officer reviews the budget.
Chief Haugh reported the new police cruiser has been received but that "the earliest Chief Haugh can get the vehicle outfitted is November." He said he is looking into expediting the outfitting if possible.
Why it matters: The staffing change and additional hours aim to increase patrol coverage, a point also raised during public comment when Resident Chris Berens asked for more evening patrols. The equipment timeline affects when a fully staffed and equipped patrol vehicle will be available for service.
