Officials urge residents to verify solicitor permits; PSEG Nicholson Road site to be largely screened

During the July 18 meeting Commissioner Lee warned residents about door‑to‑door solicitors who fail to carry the Borough solicitor permit. He said the permit will be on Borough letterhead with the municipal clerk's signature and the Borough seal and that solicitors are instructed to carry it. "If they cannot produce the permit, please call the police where they will immediately respond," Commissioner Lee said.
Borough Administrator David Taraschi noted a recent amendment to the Borough ordinance that makes it easier for solicitors to obtain a permit. Commissioner Lee encouraged residents who do not want solicitors at their door to register for the Borough's 'Do Not Knock' list and to simply not answer the door as an option.
On development and infrastructure, Commissioner Whitman addressed community concerns about the PSEG Nicholson Road site. He said the front portion near Nicholson Road will be used for employee parking and that the new substation will be set back approximately 400 feet and screened by trees and shrubs, reducing visible impacts for most residents. He also noted ongoing Kings Highway roadwork and described the work as likely to cause short‑term inconvenience with long‑term benefits.
The statements on solicitor permits, the 'Do Not Knock' option, and the PSEG setback were statements of current administrative policy and project placement; no formal enforcement action or permitting decisions were taken during the session.
