District staff told the board the new school project’s substantial-completion date remains Aug. 26, contingent on inspections and satisfactory final work. Project managers cautioned that even if the building is declared substantially complete on that date, furniture delivery and staff moves could delay opening and that the district may need to open the school year in the existing middle–high school building until move‑in is complete.
Superintendent and operations staff said they will meet early next week to finalize recommendations and the academic calendar implications; they noted staff will need to decide and notify parents quickly if the student start date is affected. Board members asked for a firm date and were told staff would return with a clear recommendation after the Monday meeting.
Members also received updates on interior finishes, bleacher replacement, and retention of championship signage and other branding in the new facility. The board discussed paint‑color swatches and asked that staff verify color codes and samples before final decisions. Several trustees emphasized that appearance choices should not impede educational operations.
The board also voted earlier in the meeting to approve the new school’s name as Weldon Middle High School and to approve a commemorative plaque layout that will list current and prior board members with years of service.
