Council passes indigent defense resolution; holds second readings on legal services and budget items

On third reading the council passed Resolution R-14-2024 authorizing the mayor and two council members to execute an agreement for indigent defense services with the Tuscarawas County Public Defender Commission. The motion to pass was made by Pancoe, seconded by White, and recorded as a roll-call vote with Diveley, Oberlin, Pancoe and White voting yes.
Council conducted second readings on several items: a contract with Stephan P. Babik of Babik LLC for legal services under R.C. 733.48 and R.C. 705.11; 2025 temporary appropriations under R.C. 5705.38; and an ordinance to contract with Fitzpatrick, Zimmerman & Rose Co., L.P.A. as police prosecutor effective Jan. 1, 2025, establishing compensation at $90 per hour for a two-year period.
Solicitor Steve Babik was asked to prepare legislation for disposal of obsolete equipment and for county auditor certification of ballot material for a renewal police levy to be presented at the December meeting.
