Diveley reported the monthly call volume and Tolley’s resignation and said "additional assistance is warranted to help with police coverage." Council member Bellinger noted both officers are currently working 40 hours per week and that a prior levy to raise funds failed; Oberlin said staffing issues with the sheriff’s department covering the township have been a concern.
Separately, Fiscal Officer Maria App told council that remaining ARPA funds of $11,606 combined with a $3,000 appropriation in the police vehicle budget could cover the cost of outfitting the new cruiser, which was reported ready for delivery. Maria said capital funds could be used if additional funding is required.
Council did not take a formal vote at the July 11 meeting to add a levy or expand staffing; discussion centered on options and funding sources and on using designated ARPA or capital funds to outfit new equipment.
