Botkins authorizes extra paint cost for grass truck; fire chief will seek grants for gear

Council members were briefed on cost overruns for a fire-department grass truck at the March 10 Botkins meeting.
Mayor Lance Symonds said the additional $10,000 request was to paint the entire truck, not just the rear panels; subsequent work reduced the paint job cost by $3,600, leaving a current overage of about $12,600. Chief Glass told the council he will not purchase new hose or turnout gear this year to offset the overage and will seek grants to fund those items.
Symonds gave approval for the department to move forward with the additional paint costs. The council did not vote on a separate appropriation during the meeting; Chief Glass and the mayor discussed cost reductions and grant-seeking as the department's path to cover equipment needs.
