County sheriff gives SRO update; drainage engineer presents FY25/26 budget draft

At the Jan. 28 Calhoun County Board of Supervisors meeting, Calhoun County Sheriff Pat Riley briefed the board on the School Resource Officer (SRO) program and related budget considerations. The board received the update and took no formal action.
Brian Bloome, the Buena Vista/Calhoun/Sac County Drainage Engineer, presented the proposed FY25/26 drainage budget and provided supervisors with a draft employment contract. Bloome said he will set up a joint meeting with a representative of each county board to review the drainage budget and the draft contract. The board did not finalize budget decisions during the meeting and scheduled further budget discussion for its Feb. 4 meeting.
The presentations were informational: staff and external engineers shared background and next steps rather than seeking immediate votes. The auditor’s minutes reference intercounty teleconferences and note that full drainage- and watchman-service details are available in the auditor’s office.
Next steps: Bloome will coordinate a meeting of county representatives to discuss the drainage budget and employment-contract details; the board will continue preliminary budget deliberations at its next regular meeting on Feb. 4, 2025.
