Calhoun County supervisors approve underground utility permit, $88,788.74 pipe purchase and claims

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors met Jan. 28 in Rockwell City and approved several routine infrastructure and financial items, including an underground utility permit and a maintenance-pipe purchase.
Motion by Cory Ridgely, seconded by Scott Jacobs, to approve the agenda passed unanimously. The board then approved the minutes of its prior meeting.
Nick Buse, Calhoun/Sac County Engineer, presented department updates; the board voted to approve Underground Construction Permit No. 1-2025 for Calhoun County Electric Cooperative Association to install 30 URD by boring along the east side of road N47 north of 390th near a bridge. The permit was described during the Engineer’s update and carried on a motion by Scott Jacobs, seconded by Cory Ridgely.
The board accepted the lower quote from Contech Engineered Solutions for 2025 maintenance pipe in the amount of $88,788.74 after a motion by Ridgely, seconded by Jacobs; the motion carried with all members voting Aye.
The supervisors reviewed and allowed claims checks (78577–78668), bank drafts (DFT0004713–0004733) and stamped warrants (505805–505821). Motion by Jacobs, seconded by Ridgely, to allow the claims passed unanimously. Line-item vendor listings for county expenditures were entered in the record.
Via teleconference the board recorded approvals related to Joint Drainage District business with neighboring counties, including a stamped warrant to be paid by Webster County to Wieston Ag Service for beaver-dam removal ($600) on Joint Drainage District 16 Webster–31 Calhoun, Branch 4, and approvals of Joint Drainage District watchman services for Oct–Dec 2024 with Webster, Pocahontas and Sac counties; the minutes note that full details are available in the auditor’s office.
The board also approved the Calhoun County Sheriff’s 4th quarter report through Dec. 31, 2024 on a motion by Jacobs, seconded by Ridgely.
All recorded motions at the meeting carried with the three supervisors voting Aye. The board adjourned and scheduled its next regular meeting for Feb. 4, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.
