Calhoun County supervisors approve contracts, law-enforcement agreement and EMS repairs

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors on March 4 in Rockwell City approved a series of routine contracts, a cooperative law-enforcement agreement and multiple emergency medical services repairs.

In roll-call business at the courthouse, the board — Chairman Dave George, Vice Chairman Cory Ridgely and Supervisor Scott Jacobs — approved the meeting agenda and the minutes of the previous session. No members of the public signed up or spoke during the public-comment period.

Calhoun/Sac County Engineer Nick Buse provided department updates, noting a preconstruction meeting scheduled for project N28 and that a student will job-shadow in the engineer’s office. The board then approved a motion authorizing the chair to sign the Stratford Gravel contract; the motion passed with unanimous assent.

Sheriff Pat Riley reviewed the sheriff’s office budget and discussed the cost implications of providing a School Resource Officer. The board approved a 28E law-enforcement agreement between Farnhamville and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office; the motion to authorize the chair to sign the agreement passed unanimously.

Bruce Musgrave, EMS director, proposed forming an EMS Advisory Council and discussed placing an “EMS as an Essential Service” question on the November ballot. Musgrave and the board discussed amending the county budget; any specific budget amendments will be presented later when all requests are compiled.

The board approved Gopher’s quote of $11,290.48 to repair an ambulance engine and approved repairs to the EMS Tahoe from Wahl-McAtee. The supervisors also authorized the ambulance director to sign a contract to purchase a new ambulance after the July 2027 budget process, with funds to come from the county’s Capital Projects fund.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn; the supervisors set their next regular meeting for 9 a.m. on March 11, 2025.
