Calhoun County board signs off on contracts, benefits documents and personnel appointment

ROCKWELL CITY, Iowa — At its Feb. 25 meeting the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors approved several routine contracts, vendor agreements and a personnel appointment.
The board authorized the chairman to sign a Planned Service Agreement with Carroll Control Systems Inc. for boiler maintenance beginning March 1, 2025. It also authorized the chair to execute FY 2025–26 benefits and insurance documents presented by Kristi Johnson, the county’s HR director, which included a Buy Down Renewal Plan with Auxiant, ISAC Group Benefits Program enrollments (group health, dental and vision) and associated confirmations and addenda listed in the meeting record.
The board approved the State of Iowa Agreement for Enhanced Security Services effective March 1, 2025, and approved an ownership amendment on a liquor license for the Dollar General store in Manson. Board members reviewed and approved claims (checks 78775–78830), bank drafts and stamped warrants, and authorized payment for watchman services to the Buena Vista County Auditor. The board also approved a MidAmerican Energy utility permit allowing construction across multiple Calhoun County drainage districts enumerated in the minutes.
Separately, County Attorney Ben Smith, participating by phone, discussed staffing and the board approved the appointment of Brandi Graffunder to the investigator position in the county attorney’s office effective March 1, 2025 at a monthly rate of $1,667.
Each of the motions was recorded as carried with unanimous votes in the minutes.
