Managers report modest dip in plover fledging, higher revenue and active procurement for concessions

At the Sept. 12 joint meeting the committee heard a beach-season review that covered wildlife monitoring, procurement steps for concessions, revenue comparisons and staffing.
Erin reported plover monitoring results for the year: "We had a total overall of 41 birds this year, 20 pairs, 27 nests total... and we have 35 chicks fledged," a slight decline from 37 chicks fledged the previous year; she and other managers noted increased predation (foxes) and several re-nests. Members discussed predation patterns and that site-specific predator pressure appeared higher at West Dennis this season.
Staff updated the committee that permanent concession bids were advertised and mobile concession bids were due Oct. 17; an owner's project manager (OPM) procurement draft was in circulation with plans to advertise OPM procurement in late October to support a long‑term bathhouse/stair replacement project. The committee was told temporary stairs and short-term repairs were being managed while a longer-term engineering study is developed.
On revenue, staff provided year‑over‑year comparisons and tied the town’s improved receipts to a run of favorable weather and earlier lot openings, noting fewer rain days than last year. Members praised seasonal staffing and coordination with police, fire, DPW and natural resources; the committee also noted that the fee recommendations it had submitted were approved at the recent fee hearing and will be in effect next season.
The committee asked staff to invite police and public-safety representatives to a future meeting to review incidents and response planning. The meeting closed after routine minutes approval and adjournment.
