Board Chair Joanna Daniels said she had received a resume for an outside candidate, Angharad Phillips, and flagged the possibility of adding an operations director role to support the Hendersonville branch. Several trustees questioned whether an outside hire without library experience would be appropriate. Kristin Lima, who has been serving in an interim capacity, told the board she had been overwhelmed initially but said she is learning into the role and feels confident she can do the job.
To allow nominations and a prompt decision, the board voted to suspend Robert's Rules (motion by Jim Holcomb, seconded by Paul McCoy). Jim Holcomb then nominated Kristin Lima; Paul McCoy seconded the nomination. The motion to appoint Lima carried, with one recorded nay vote from Joanna Daniels.
Board members who raised concerns said their objections centered on whether an external operations-oriented hire would better address workload, while supporters emphasized continuity and Lima's improving performance. A proposed nomination of Angharad Phillips did not proceed to a successful motion.
The appointment resolves the immediate leadership question for the Hendersonville branch; the board did not set a timeline for a permanent hire at the April 23 meeting.
