Converse County tourism board readies GovCon, notes Glenrock visitor center opening and state fair updates

Board members at the Converse County Tourism Promotion Board meeting on Feb. 17 heard updates from the Wyoming State Fair and local Main Street groups and confirmed preparations for upcoming tourism events.

Kota Provence of the Wyoming State Fair reported that the Silver Arena and two additional staff positions were reintroduced to legislators by Senators Strock and Boner. Jen Goodwin of The Enterprise/Main Street Douglas outlined summer event planning, including a Douglas decorating contest and a State Fair parade theme celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Candace Benedetta described a ribbon cutting at the Glenrock Visitor Center and said the grand opening will be Saturday, Feb. 21. The board thanked staff and volunteers who attended the ribbon cutting.

Sagebrush Marketing’s Jen Womack said the Converse County visitor guides are ready for pickup and that other promotional materials are prepped for the GovCon convention. Administrator Cathy Feezer-Jones said GovCon plans are finalized and that she had entered 60 Converse County events into the Wyoming Tourism portal.

Under old business, the board reviewed an MOU related to placement and upkeep of the "Jack and Hare’ett" display at Gate 3 of the Wyoming State Fair; the MOU was read and is ready for signature. The board also noted that a bylaws review is pending and will be scheduled to coincide with the board retreat.

There were no public comments. The board entered executive session from 7:20 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and adjourned at 7:51 p.m.
