Converse County tourism board approves event grants and commissions $3,500 county artwork map

The Converse County Tourism Promotion Board on Feb. 17 approved grants for three local events and voted to commission an artwork map to promote the county.

At the meeting in Town Square, Glenrock, the board approved a $1,193.38 grant to The Enterprise for Jackalope Days (June 11–14, 2026), a $1,442 grant for the Glenrock Sheepherder’s Rendezvous (Aug. 21–23, 2026), and a $5,770 grant to the Wyoming Quarter Horse Association for the Cowboy Summer Classic Quarter Horse Show (July 7–12, 2026). The approved event grants total $8,405.38.

The motions to approve the grants were made and seconded by board members as recorded in the meeting minutes: John Rabun moved approval of Jackalope Days funding with Jane Garber seconding; Candace Benedetta moved approval of the Sheepherder’s grant with Kris Mitchell seconding; and John Rabun moved and Kris Mitchell seconded approval of the Quarter Horse Association request. Each motion carried, as noted in the minutes.

In a separate vote, the board approved commissioning an artwork map of Converse County painted by Bruce Speidel of Crook County for promotional use. Board member Jane Garber moved to accept the first artwork option at a cost of $3,500; Vicki Widiker seconded, and the motion carried.

The meeting record also notes routine approvals earlier in the session, including the January minutes and a financial report reflecting $34,915.46 in invoices paid.

The board did not provide additional detail on how the grants will be disbursed beyond the approved amounts. The board’s next meeting is scheduled for March 24 at the KOA in Douglas at 5:30 p.m.
