Electric-utilities reports list development projects and substation, SCADA upgrades
Summary
Electric Utilities staff updated the council on multiple residential development projects, substation and SCADA upgrades, fiber communications installs and generator work intended to improve distribution reliability and prepare for new load.
Shane Lewis of Electric Utilities briefed the council on distribution upgrades and development projects at the May 28 work session, citing multiple housing developments, substation control upgrades and work to integrate meter and communications systems.
Lewis listed active and planned developments including Northgate (lots 180–202), Maple Branch Phase II, Maple Valley and the Gatewood Way apartment complex. He described transmission-and-distribution (T&D) work such as energizing the T5 transformer and regulators, installing a fiber-optic communications hub for Main T5 control, replacing regulator controllers and upgrading relay and RTU/RTAC devices to improve control and monitoring. Staff also noted a RWTP peak-shave generator overhaul intended to reduce wholesale electric costs and future unit placement decisions.
Staff reported meter-collection hardware (Sensus collectors) arrived and is powered up and that coordination with Sensus and Concord is underway to begin AMI installations; electric’s first article meters are in and being prepped for production. Tyler and Ferguson integration work toward system cutover continues.
No formal action or votes were taken during the briefing. Staff said they will continue procurement, construction scheduling and coordination with development partners.
