New Bremen council approves higher EMS payment, adopts updated code and levies reconstruction assessments

The Village of New Bremen Council on Feb. 10 approved three formal measures, including an increased payment to the town’s emergency squad, adoption of an updated codification of local law and assessments to residents for completed street work.

Village Administrator Richter reported that the current contract with the New Bremen Emergency Squad is $156,000 annually and that the village requested a contract for $200,000 to continue emergency medical services. Richter said the payment would be made from property tax levy funds and that staff anticipated property tax revenue of $249,000. Council passed Third Reading Resolution 2025-01-01 authorizing the contract; Councilman Condon moved, Councilman Burnell seconded, and the resolution passed with six ayes.

Council also approved Third Reading Ordinance 2025-01-02 to adopt the American Legal Publishing Ohio Basic Code 2024 Edition. Councilman Bertke moved the ordinance, Councilman Lomakin seconded, and the measure passed unanimously.

The meeting record shows that Eastmoor Drive, Park Street and Plum Street reconstruction is complete and that final assessments to affected residents totalled $155,918.74. Council passed Third Reading Ordinance 2025-01-03 levying those assessments; Councilman Burnell moved, Councilman Hurley seconded, and the ordinance passed with six ayes.

Administrator Richter additionally reported that the Ohio Department of Transportation is preparing the area for an SR 274 culvert repair and that Center Point has begun replacing gas lines ahead of the Vine and Park Street reconstruction work.

Council entered an executive session at 6:36 p.m. to discuss the purchase or sale of property and litigation and exited at 6:45 p.m.; no action resulted from that session. The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
